Here's a brief summary of the week with details relating to juniors of course not all relevant to the adults but everyone gets the same attention!

The coaches will all be UK based British Rowing registered and experienced, usually working with schools and Uni's and all will have their DBS of course.  The coaches will be with the guests all day and (for kids) supervise them at all times unless the parents expressly give (us) permission to allow them to go off on small groups (we usually recommend 3 minimum) for short and planned 'excursions', usually to the shops, cafes or the beach, but never more than 10 minutes walk away from the house.

We start the week with a quick assessment of each of the guests' strengths and what they're aiming to get from the week then group them accordingly while giving each a chance to swap boats as per their preference.  During the week there is continuous assessment and we all have all meals together so there's always chat about the rowing and the coaches will take the time to speak to all individually about how they're getting on several times during the week.

A typical day starts when we have breakfast in the accommodation at 8am and that would be cereals, muesli, ham. cheese, fruit, porridge then we head off to the lake for the morning. There we do a warm-up and then have one or two sessions on the lake led by the coaches and they decide how to split the groups. There will be a Pilates session every morning and a chance to use the spa and gym also all under supervision.

We come back for lunch around mid-day which again is in the accommodation and will be fruit or salad to start, meat, fish and veggie options (a different choice each day) plus dessert. Then we have a rest period of about 3 hours when they may want to go to the beach and if so one of the coaches will accompany them.  We'll try to make sure they don't over-do the sun , however we do ask parents advise their juniors to be responsible also and listen to good advice when it's politely given!

We head back to the lake around 3 pm for one or two session and take care to ensure guests are well protected and watered and avoid over exertion. During the afternoon we’ll cover boat rigging and perhaps have some swimming in the lake. We will finish around 6pm then come back for dinner around 7pm , again in the house and usually there's a lot of chatting  afterwards .  If it's not too late we usually suggest an accompanied walk around town to the beach cafes or  provide a film or other entertainment for anyone that wants it. We've had various side-shows including a music dance routine ! Usually after the first 2 days guests are pretty tired and are happy to kick back in the house for most of the time and there's plenty of space to do so.

On the 3rd day we'll suggest an extended afternoon on the beach with a game of volleyball or footie and perhaps have a longer morning session,  but the coaches will judge whether that's a good idea and anyone who wants to keep rowing that afternoon can do so with a coach. We can also arrange a surf lesson and supervised 2 or 3 hour use of surf boards and wetsuits. This is very popular and the surf team are very experienced and safety aware.

Then the 4th and 5th days we focus on sharpening skills in the areas that the guests' have each asked to be improved and where the coaches have seen that they need to improve and we'll try to provide a measure of that improvement in a written report provided for each guest at the end of the week as well as of course lots of praise for their effort and achievement (which will be valid and tangible)!

For the last evening we may head out for a pizza rather than stay at the house and provide a fun feedback session to mark the end of the week.

Here's some feedback received from a recent previous camp from a mum about her son's experience on camp with us:

Hi Duncan
Sorry for the delay in sending some feedback.  Absolutely no reflection on the holiday or the organisation but more a reflection on a busy summer!
In terms of the holiday and its organisation M**** and I were very happy.  The communication beforehand was very helpful and prompted me to think about aspects that I wouldn't have and also reassured me of what M**** might expect on  arrival.

You were there to pick him up at the airport on arrival and also dropped him back at the airport on his return.

The accommodation, whilst I understand is basic, was clean.  M**** didn't come back looking like he had starved so I take it that the meals were good.  He can be a picky eater preferring plain food to anything too spicy etc so I think all the food and meals were good.
The rowing and coaching were excellent.  Exactly what he came to learn and he absolutely loved the time spent with the coaches and on the water.  I cannot speak highly enough of how much he talked about this aspect of the holiday - so thank you all.

I can assure you that his school have asked M****  for feedback on the camp as a possible destination for their rowing team and I am certain that M**** will give fabulous reviews.

Thank you all so much for the week that M****  was with you.  He learnt lots and enjoyed himself tremendously.

With kind regards
